Do you ever ponder to consider that learning how to declutter your life should be a priority? However, if you are like a lot of people this will not occur often. Your goals and dreams are over shadowed by a grey cloud of confusion. Or you simply will not make the time to work on your goals and ambitions.
We have so many heavy weight burdensome thoughts in our heads. There are so many events in our home or workspace, along with so many people that our inner critic says we should be giving our energy to.
Clearing the Closets of Your Mind
In order to understand how to declutter your life, you need to remove the spiders and cobwebs that have been accumulating in your life. What goes on in your personal and professional life is a reflection of your clutter or burden thoughts within the closets of your mind.
If you imagine a diver in the water. He has all these lead weights attached to him that keep pulling him down to the bottom of the ocean. The only way he can free himself is to less loose the shackles and releasing the weights allowing them to fall away. The diver becomes as free as a bird floating up to the surface again where being light as a feather and happy is the natural state of being.
So most people do not want to release the heavy junk in their lives because it is a reflection of holding on to the junk food for thoughts. When you release the need to hold on to beliefs and ideas that no longer serve us, your outer world will automatically change.
However, you can make a change today by doing the following exercise which starts with cleaning up the clutter in your personal space in the home and office. I want you to say the following affirmation to yourself and also out load.
I clear out the closets of my mind.
The universe loves symbolic propositions, especially when you are focusing on an intent of cleaning up your life.
First Assignment: Cleaning up your Space
Take as long as you need to complete this task but be consistent with it. Cleaning up your space is an extremely uplifting experience, even if you find it a chore to begin with. You will soon benefit from the psychological effects of removing the clutter.
It also helps to establish the foundation for cleaning up your thought patterns in your world as mention above.
I would advise that you aim for a week to do this assignment before moving on to the next. This will allow you to declutter your drawers, the basement, office, kitchen, and other places. Meditate on this by doing the following.
Close your eyes and sit quietly go through each room in your house or place in your life and find which one feels more like a burden or ‘feels the heaviest’. This is the room to start with, the first impression is the correct one.
If you are honest then you will already know as it is the one that will irritate you the most.
Figure out which items you want to keep and put them to one side. Perhaps you can find a new home for things that are of use to someone but no value to you. You may wish to donate the items that you don’t want to charity.

Remember to say the affirmation above “I clean out the closets of my mind.” Allow it to sink into your subconscious mind. Cleaning up your space may seen just like that but there is more to it than this. There is a deep connection between how you treat your life and your personal stuff.
Second Assignment: Be Aware of Your Thoughts
I mentioned using the affirmation above about cleaning the closets your mind. Let me explain. You need to become consciously aware of your thoughts in particular repetitive thought patterns of negativity. These negative old patterns need to be replaced with happy healthy thoughts.
To do this you can take a note pad and during the day write down when you become aware of a negative thought that undermines you. This can be approached in the following way.
Use separate sheets of paper to the following topic where you write down your thoughts.
- Things that disturb or worry you
- Things that play on your nerves
- Items that you need to get done
- Ideas and things that make you happy
- Things you want to have
You may want to add addition topics to this list, the above is to get you started. For each of these categories, you will then write down your thoughts as they occur during the day.
Do this second assignment for a week or 7 days and try not to judge what is written down for now, you are simply gathering information at the moment.
Third Assignment: Declutter and Analysis
Now comes the exciting stuff! You are going to take each of those thoughts and review each one then replace with a new positive thought.
Firstly for items one and two above, think of why does this disturb me and cause me anxiety? What can I do differently about this and change?
Now look at these patterns and write down a counter thought that is positive. For example, ‘I worry about paying the bills every month.’, can be replaced with ‘I now pay my bills on time.’
These are the new positive thoughts that you want to give your attention to that will settle into your subconscious mind. These two lists above should change and when you realize what is in your life and inner thoughts that do not belong there in your world.
For the third list, highlight the items that need to be done and can only be done by you. Re-order them into priority and put the very important ones at the top that you know must be done.
The fourth list is to remind us to do the things in our life that make us happy and go and do fun and joyful things.
The final list is the most important and reflects your goals and dreams in life. Take the time to think about what you really want in life and write them to a separate sheet of paper and place them on the wall where you will see the goal list often.
Focus on the one dream in the list that is really making you restless and reflects your wants, your desires. Devote time to achieving this every day. When you wake up in the morning, make sure this goal is in your thoughts, and think about it when going to sleep.
Your goals need to be like a plant or tree, where you need to give them fertile ground to germinate and grow, giving plenty of water. Make sure you give it priority in life and not to let anything else undermine it.
Now let your decluttered mind operate for you!
